Why Hospice of the Valley

As a not-for-profit, community-based hospice, we strive to serve the diverse needs of families with a wide variety of comprehensive programs. We care for people in Maricopa and northern Pinal counties.
Our people are what make Hospice of the Valley truly special—our staff, volunteer board of directors, volunteers, donors and supporters—and of course, the patients and families we are honored to serve. Our teams of compassionate caregivers are dedicated to easing this difficult journey.
Hospice of the Valley was founded in 1977 as a not-for-profit organization by a group of citizens that shared a vision about a new way of caring for the dying. Led by the Rev. Q. Gerald Roseberry, the agency was established as the first hospice in Phoenix, Arizona, and was among the first in the nation. Volunteers worked in rent-free space at the Maricopa County health department.
These inspirational stories from our hospice patients and their families are about hope, caring and going the extra mile to make life the best it can be.

When patients need symptom management and family caregivers need a break, patients may stay for limited periods at one of our small, comfortable inpatient hospice homes, with locations Valley-wide.
End-of-life and respite care for seriously ill children and their families, including inpatient care at Ryan House, the Southwest’s only respite care home for children.
More than 200 volunteers and their four-legged friends visit patients and families, bringing cheer to all they meet.
