Specially trained Jewish volunteers perform Shabbat blessings for Jewish patients and family members receiving care in one of our inpatient units.
Shabbat Blessings visits are relatively short and do not require the presence of a religious officiant. Our volunteers feel honored to offer this blessing to welcome the Sabbath, or Shabbat, with candles, grape juice and challah.
Rooted in tradition, Jewish patients often request Shabbat blessings because it elicits comfort and fond memories. The blessings are given to patients at any stage of their hospice journey and may also be recited for family members who desire this beautiful service.
The culturally enhanced care we provide Jewish families has been recognized by the National Institute for Jewish Hospice with a prestigious certification. Accreditation as an official Jewish Hospice means that our care teams have been educated about Jewish culture and values, have integrated Jewish medical ethics into care and have been taught traditional aspects of Jewish grief.
