History, Mission & Vision
Mission – Bringing comfort and dignity as life nears its end.
Vision – Setting the standard of excellence for end-of-life care.
History – Hospice of the Valley was founded in 1977 as a not-for-profit organization by a group of citizens that shared a vision about a new way of caring for the dying. Rev. Q. Gerald Roseberry organized the effort, which started with volunteers working in rent-free space at the county health department.
Today, Hospice of the Valley is the largest not-for-profit hospice in the country, serving about 3,000 patients a day and more than 13,800 patients a year. The agency gets 92 percent of its revenue from Medicare; 4 percent from donations; 3 percent from insurance companies and 1 percent from private pay patients. The budget for 2010 is $173 million.
